How do you find a moment of peace during your day? Is it waiting until you're up and showered before checking your phone? Is it just looking out the window and actually observing nature in the present? Is it a warm bath at night? Is it none of the above?
These days, finding moments of peace during the day has become more of a gift to ourselves than a way of being. The exception rather than the rule. We are busy being busy, we fear for our health, we need to stay informed through our devices. And through all this, we forget to connect with ourselves. To just be rather than do. Americans are professional "doers" and most of us have not learned (or forgotten) how to just be.
We think being is not productive, is not getting us ahead, is a waste of time. Or maybe we've never stopped to think about it. And therein lies the challenge. Can we even take a minute to consider what it means to just be? To connect to the moment during our day? To be content not doing anything?
If we truly want to live healthy lives, this is a key ingredient. Intentionally creating moments to slow down, observe, feel, enjoy. To create those moments of peace. To give our busy minds a chance to quiet down and our busy bodies a chance to restore and recharge. Because no one is going to be for us.
For me, being in a new place like I am in Brazil, away from all I know at home, allows me a great opportunity to appreciate the moment. My mind cannot grasp the familiar and tell me its same old stories as it interprets what it sees. Looking out at a new landscape and new forms of nature is calming. I hope you find your peaceful moment today.
